Rotarians Sign the Survivor's Appeal

The hibakusha (atom bomb survivors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki) have issued a unified appeal that says, in part:

“So that the people from future generations will not have to experience hell on earth, we want to realize a world free of nuclear weapons while we are still alive.”

The Hibakusha supported the signing of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons at the United Nations in July 2017. Rotarians support the Hibakusha Appeal to end nuclear weapons and the entering into force of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. THE ROAD TO PEACE

1. Experts agree that educating women is the silver bullet for poverty, injustice, climate change and peace. Step one for millions of women is a washable, inexpensive ($5), long-lasting menstrual kit (MoonCatcher.org). Step two are microloans (Kiva.org). Step three is a K-12 education on a smart phone (LearningEquality.org; EarthTeamwork.com). These are all projects of Niskayuna Rotary (NY) and our Heartbeat eClub supporting women & children.

2. After WWII, Japan and Germany were forced to change their constitutions to read essentially, “We the people of (Japan, Germany) believe that war is not the way to solve international disputes and we won’t do it anymore.” Rotary’s mission needs to be to add this to the constitution of all nations. These two major nations can serve as our shining examples.
