Rotarians Sign the Survivor's Appeal

The hibakusha (atom bomb survivors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki) have issued a unified appeal that says, in part:
“So that the people from future generations will not have to experience hell on earth, we want to realize a world free of nuclear weapons while we are still alive.”
The Hibakusha supported the signing of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons at the United Nations in July 2017. Rotarians support the Hibakusha Appeal to end nuclear weapons and the entering into force of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. You can read it here: http://www.icanw.org/treaty-on-the-prohibition-of-nuclear-weapons/

I fully support and endorse this petition to permanently put an end to the use, stockpiling and developing of nukes. However, what I also believe is that in parallel to ending Nukes, the world also seriously needs to rethink about its current structure and economic system that produces global inequity and contributes to crisis situation particularly in the South where vast majority the peasants, working class, indigenous peoples and other marginalised groups perish under the nuke of starvation, disease, dispossession of land, conflicts, and violence. I don’t think their daily experiences of injustice and struggles any less painful and heartbreaking than the sufferings of those survivors of nuclear bombs (with my deepest respect).
